Just been stung by a bee while riding. Little blighter hit me in the face between my open main visor and the sun visor, dropped out of the bottom of my lid into the open neck of my jacket. Had to pull over rather sharpish.

Been there myself. Not nice. Luckily we were on our way to our holiday cottage and Lady Poppy had brought some Anthisan as she gets a bad reaction to stings.

It's surface dressing season again. Nearly every road I tried between Croft thru Teesdale and Weardale had a tar and chip section with the obligatory gravel marbles and an advisory 20mph limit. The Stanhope to Edmundbyers road was a 'mare as they were in the process of doing it and there were chips flying everywhere.
Once home, I spent an hour digging lumps of stone out of my tyres and removing bits of gravel from various parts of the bike where the tar had stuck and hardened.

I rode some roads out here that had just been done. They also dressed a massive section of the A12 North that clearly didn't need doing.

Yeah. It just seems random and pointless, and doesn't fix any of the fundamental road defects.
It's a council financial ruse of some sort

Yep, I found some on one of my normal cycling routes this morning. What's strange as this section was only done a couple of years ago, and it didn't need doing!

Have to say that they had done a proper resurfacing job on one part of the west bound A12 and it's now nice and smooth, they just need to do the other bad bits.

My Win10 laptop, which I've been already been using this morning, decided it no longer liked my password I've had for the last 6 months when it awoke from sleep. Caps lock/num lock wasn't on - it just wouldn't take it and since it was basically my phone number I hadn't forgotten it.
I read later that this has happened before after a Win10 update and it's because (at that time) all characters were being entered as uppercase but since you can't see the characters you don't know...

Kenzie

Yep, had that too. My new laptop did the same thing just after updating for the first time. Luckily there is a reset.

I'll agree with that.
Rubbish day at work. I got all the crap jobs to do and nothing completed to show for it at the end of the day as they were all such convoluted pains. Everyone else had the easy jobs, steamed through them and looked really good for work turnover on the timekeeping system we use.
I came out having done the most work and stress, looking the worst.

Strimming the wilderness on the bank behind the house. Well covered with overalls, gloves, helmet, visor and ear defenders but still ended up with a splat of hogweed sap on my lower lip, which has now blown up with a huge blister. Quick trip to the doctor and, half a dozen steroid tablets later I now have to wait for it to go down. :-(

Not good, but typical of current government practice, everything has been farmed out, even our departments external recruiting interview process has an external company providing an interviewer.

What you should be saying is not what it's costing the government, but what it's costing you as a tax payer.

its saved the public billions in taxpayers money.

the assessment also involves a small physical but in your wife's case i would hazard a guess the assessor must have deemed it not necessary. the questions are a sort of "test" to see if your lying on what you put down on the form as most people go to their local CAB office or get a friend to fill it in so come interview time they cant remember what they had filled in on the form. the face to face is also to stop people using doppelgänger's as such.

its got a lot of "chancers" off the claim for which the public dont have to pay them.

i recently got awarded PIP due to my health. so i would say your wife has nothing to worry about.

think of it this way, by doing what the government have done it has created jobs (clerical staff for the whole process) for those that want to work and made it harder for those that dont. the money the public have saved goes to the workers/companies doing the assessments so technically there is no saving but each member of staff or company still has to pay "tax" so the government get a portion of it all back and round and round it goes keeping people employed.

So maybe there are some winners.
My concerns are that these things are target driven and the assessors probably have to hit these.
Another thing that concerns me is that they try to work out what my wife can or can't do via a proforma form with generic questions. But at no point do they ask how much do I have to do to help her. I hate to think how she'd cope if I want around.

Nothing wrong with my old phone (galaxy S7) still works as good as when I got it, including battery life but it's 3 years old (gee already) and have to take the upgrade deal or pay much more later when it dies.

Before PIP etc. My wife, a nurse was on sick leave due to an auto immune liver disease, when she discovered she had breast cancer requiring mastectomy, chemo and radio therapy. As a consequence her NHS sickness entitlement was exhausted and she had to claim sickness benefit. At the same time due to the effects of the chemo she claimed some other benefit (I cannot remember what). What I do remember the forms were horrific, the same questions asked in half a dozen different ways. She was then invited to attend an assessment at the local DSS office and the next day got a second letter to say no need, and her application had been approved. So I obviously filled the form in correctly.

But what then came as a shock, was a requirement to attend the local job centre (6 miles away) for a fortnightly back to work interview, told a failure to attend will result in not receiving her sick pay. I went with her.

The lady she met with could not have been nicer, she suffered from MS and was wheelchair bound. She had been a high flying HR exec somewhere and had to give up the stress once she had become ill.

She understood, my wife had a job, but was too ill to work and that we were caught up in the system that was trying to get people off sick and into work. she explained that for years to get jobless figures down the system had been encouraging the long term unemployed to get greater benefits by claiming sickness instead.

Twice though we got phone calls don't bother coming for your interview as she is herself taking sick leave.

As I said, nice lady. when my wife felt ready to go back, she was told. But you cannot go yet. You need a new coat and shoes and issued shop vouchers and you get a transition allowance of £100/month for 6 months to help you back into work.

I think the job centre used her to pass on the message that even with MS, she wanted to work and reasonable employers should make allowances for staff with health problems. Unlike the NHS who put them through the disciplinary procedure for being ill.

My overriding memory of those days, one interview was midway though a cycle of chemo and my wife had to run from the interview to the stinking toilets to vomit, worse on the way home she fouled herself. Too ill to work is not ill enough to miss a job centre interview!

Not finding anywhere that even comes close to matching up with this forum for the equivalent Tracer related info and community. Check the screw on the back when the engine is up to temperature. If it doesn't work when it's cold and hot it's likely a connection somewhere. If it's only when it's hot then adjusting the screw might work.

I'm having a really ****ing **** morning so far.

If you were to ask me first thing this morning my view on my newly fitted Pirelli tyres, I would have said I love them.
I'd even say I still do. However I'll not get the test the longevity of them as this morning I got a ****ing massive tyre killing ******* stone in my two week old rear tyre. Just as I was entering a roundabout - which was interesting to say the least as it went flat instantly.
I was 6 miles from home, I had a quick go at pushing it to get to safety and realised pushing with a totally flat tyre was not an option to get home. I didn't really fancy waiting for the useless tosser RAC man to take 4 hours to not come like last time.
My tyre repair kit sealant had turned into an almost solid lump so I couldn't even try to bodge it.
I was sat looking at the bike when I realised **** it, I still have drive this time.
So I rode the 6 miles home at about 20 mph with my hazards on. I made it home all ok, I can say they have great run flat capabilities. Only to discover my missus had already gone out and taken the car. Bugger.
Luckily the old tyre was still in the garage so I swapped that over with a bit of swearing and am now sat at work having to face the rest of my day.

On wards and ****ing upwards.

Today i got an update saying my renewal was complete. Being a suspicious sod I logged into my account to check. Of course it was wrong and I only got one year. I complained and got a load of waffle back.
So I gave them the choice of giving me the 2 years as promised or my money back.

When I am out on bike I tend to avoid areas of road that are not regularly used by other traffic, e.g.. areas near kerb, centre of lanes, and those normally 'V' shaped areas of road junctions that collect gravel and other miscellaneous crap. My rationale is that if I stick to the well used bits the chances are that because many other vehicles have passed over it that their tyres will have picked the potential puncture object up before I got there... for this reason I avoid filtering - which often takes you into those unused areas, but also takes away one of the benefits of a motorbike, still even without filtering I will get there, hopefully without a puncture which would delay me a lot.

And then when I got home, I failed to put the stand down properly on my drive, the bike toppled and I am too weak to lift it back up. I am hoping my garage mate will remember to stop off on the way home from work to help me stand it up again. I HATE being ill.

Well, he remembered and the bike is now upright but the gear shifter is bent so much that I will be impossible to change gear. Will it straighten? I will find out tomorrow.

Well, he remembered and the bike is now upright but the gear shifter is bent so much that I will be impossible to change gear. Will it straighten? I will find out tomorrow.

Thoughts and prayers your way.
Puts my sprained foot in proper perspective.
Really hope you are doing better soon mate.

That's **** Herot, hope the chemo program gets restarted.

My minor gripe of the day, my wife didn't cancel her 4am alarm from last week, and I've picked up some sort of gastro bug, with the usual consequences. Currently sitting in a pool of sweat in the muggy heat.

Strikes me Bill, that the two of them were joined at birth. Liars, cheats, philanderers, racists, misogynists, homophobes.
Both equally well qualified on those counts to lead the deeply unpleasant political parties they head.

This motorcycling forum seems to have strayed into left wing politics. In that case let’s level things up by saying that this country now has a strong and charismatic leader, which is just what we need.

Hurrah!

As a leaver I expect the crash of Deutsche Bank and a stalling economy will make the fatherland more keen to keep what trade they have left flowing to their largest customer - UK - which means they will bang Barnier, Drunckers and Verstoffen heads together and focus their attention on making a deal that UK can sign up to.

with a budget surplus (not deficit) of over 1% GDP (11 billion Euros) and a strong believer in the EU project and free trade. Germany would like to help the UK, I'm sure, but at the expense of the EU? Never.

I guess we will see if our mini Trump has read "The Art of the Deal" which is working so well over the pond (/s) and can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Based on his "successes" as Mayor of London, I have my doubts.

He has a problem with keeping his word too:

Anyway, if you support him and are happy, hurrah! I'm done with politics here.

There are two sections at the top of the forum. One is called "SV Talk, Tuning, and Tweaking (http://forums.sv650.org/forumdisplay.php?f=111)" and the other is "Bikes - Talk & Issues (http://forums.sv650.org/forumdisplay.php?f=129)". These are the areas in which to discuss motorcycles and motorcycle related subjects.

This bit of the forum is called Idle Banter, and is, I quote "For non SV and non bike related chat (and the odd bit of humour".

I'd be pleased if folks did not attempt to shut down conversations and threads about non bike related stuff here, as this is the correct place for this stuff to be aired.

If it gets out of hand the mods have the wisdom and ability to lock threads where necessary.

What like a mass debate. (snigger)

As usual I have no valid input.
Politics is so full of useless lying ****ing muppets who tell the sheep who follow them what they want to hear, only to do something completely different the following day if it suits them better. That these days it's hard to pick one ****tard from the other.

Anyhow let the debate continue.

I don't agree with every opinion voiced here but I don't like censorship either. It's good to hear another opinion as it sometimes makes you consider a different perspective. So I don't intervene with these discussions unless it gets abusive.

Good one.
I found a speech...

I, Jacob Greased-Frog, would like to announce my plan for the country, and Nanny says it is a good one. A wall will be
built from the Wash to Anglesey so the Northern Poor House can be properly established.

The coal mines will be reopened and coal power stations built in the NPH to supply clean electricity to the south and to the north
if there is spare capacity. Education in the NPH will end at 11 years and urchins will either work in the fields,
down the mines or up the chimneys depending on their size. Once the meddlesome EU health and safety directives
are out of the way things will become much more profitable.

Soon, we will have happy bunches of chimney sweeps singing along on the rooftops and field workers doffing their caps as we pass. Charming.
The NHS will only look after healthy people which will save a fortune. Birth control will be abolished in the NPH since there will be a constant demand
for labourers with natural wastage and their short lifespans taking its toll. Regrettable.

The privilege of living in the south will be determined by net worth (housing excluded), the threshold will be raised yearly and if anyone does
not qualify they will be relocated in the NPH. Shame.
On the other hand this will allow my estate to be expanded, so the news is not all bad.

Once my mouthpiece Bojo has had the rest of his brain removed and will only speak when I permit it I will be recognised as the
power behind the scenes and I expect to receive the homour I deserve.

I, Jacob Diseased-Dog, will then truly be a Tory With A Title.
