Not sure its a gripe of the day or a gripe of the year. 10 days ago number 2 daughter got a blinding headache, and within 5 mins was totally blind. Thankfully her vision is slowly returning. She can now sort of focus out to 3 feet She's had a number of MRI's and an optomap scan, all of which are clear.

The doctors, having hit a brick wall, are now suggesting they refer her to another hospital, even though they have the specialties where they are. And even though they are eye specialists, "it could be MS." And, "You should get a referral letter within 2 weeks." I wonder when the appointment will be after that? 4 weeks + waiting for the appointment. ITS NOT AN INGROWING TOE NAIL!!!

was that just for the wiper blades or could it have been the insurance excess charge for windscreen replacement ? just asking.
That was just the two front wiper blades - the excess for the screen was £115.
I did have a look at their windscreen repair cost for a chip £185!
I guess the cost is higher than going into a garage and getting a chip repair at a centre but £185!

Now for something that IS about Motorcycling, but DEFINITELY isn't a gripe of the day

Not always a great idea to speed up as I found to my cost back in the 70's. I was riding back from Southend on a dual carriageway at a legal speed over taking slower traffic when I noticed a Ford granada up my chuff, so sped up. He did the same. So I thought, this is a boy racer in his 3litre granny, let's see if he can keep up with my GT750? He couldn't and then........the blue lights came on. Another 3 points...

Sent from my SM-T510 using Tapatalk

Had a similar experience, also years ago, main differences being I suspect I was going faster, yet - incredibly - I got away with a mild telling off !!!

(Didn't mention earlier 'cos my posts were probably already long enough)

November '99 and out on my new to me '92 CBR900RR on the A38 DC . Anyone who has ridden an original Blade will know that at an indicated 85 ISH in top gear it's on the edge of where all the real power is, so showing a little (relative) restraint I was at 85, before slowing alot for the big r/b outside Derby. Was probably at no more than about 45 round the r/b as it was a cold dark November evening (ambient temperature probably somewhere around 4 degrees C) and I was still getting used to the bike. Away from the r/b, back in the direction of Birmingham, the road widens out to at least 3 lanes, so with nothing on the road in front of me I took it up towards the redline in 3rd (which on any Blade is comfortably into licence losing territory). Dropping back down to 80ish, I then noticed some bluey tinted headlights on my tail.

Blue tinted headlights? Got to be some boy racer thinks I. Was back up to about 95 and still gaining a little speed when the OTHER blue lights came on.

Thought, this was it, got away with speeding for 13 years, time to take your ban like a man.......What actually happened was this Senator driving copper was also a bike cop who congratulated me on the condition of my bike and the standard of my riding gear, warned me of the danger of ice (possibly caused by faulty car cooling systems) and then proceeded to explain he had clocked me at an average 92.7 (I think it was), explaining that if I'd been over 100 he would have been doing me !!!!!

The key point being I WAS doing well over 100 right in front of him, but hugely fortunately for me, his timed average included my careful negotiation of the roundabout. Only kept the Blade 6 months, I actually preferred it in the wet, just found it fairly impossible to ride sensibly otherwise.

DISCLAIMER - all speeds mentioned above are of course in km/h ;)

Ha! Can now balance that out with my non motorcycling gripe of the day.

It seems that pretty much every time I go to use my HP office Jet wireless printer these days, I have to uninstall and reinstall the software before it will actually print anything :smt076

Like today:

Try to print

Get message 'your HP office Jet requires intervention'

So, cancel print, open HP Print and Scan Doctor

Select printer

Print and Scan Doctor declares everything fine and asks would you like to run a test print?

Try test print

Doesn't print

'the doctor' then asks would you like to try an "internal print "

Internal print, works ok.

So, then tells me I have to uninstall and reinstall the software, just like I'm pretty damn sure I did last week.......

This requires a reboot, windows then decides it wants to install some updates.........

All those charges are too high. If a chip can be repaired it is a lot less than the cost of windscreen replacement.

Good luck to your daughter Bri!! Scary thing to happen out of the blue.

As to the cost of windscreens - try looking up the price of a private replacement heated front screen for a Ford. I was quoted well over £400 a few years ago when I got fed up waiting for the useless a-wipes that are Autoglass. How much?!?! Autorubbish eventually replaced it on insurance a full MONTH after I first called the claim line. The most utterly incompetent customer "service" I have ever come across.

as another worrier, I feel your pain. No matter how many times people tell you "don't worry", you can't help it - it's not a switch that can be flicked off. The "what ifs" always loom large - my ex wife had the wonderful ability not to worry and when pressed would say: "it might not happen", whereas I would be stuck on the "what if this happens".

I found that, with me, it was always because of things that were beyond my control. Knowing that fact never helped of course so I'd make contingency plans for when things went wrong and then plans for when those things went wrong too. Frequently, the constant construction of alternate plans would distract me from my original worries.

I truly hope things settle down in a positive way for you.

Thats me too. It takes over your life. Its always over the things you can't control. The worst time, as Gary finds, is sleep when the subconscious kicks in and runs riot, amplifying all those worries. Things do have a way of sorting themselves out and thats what I have to keep telling myself.

I'd love to Martin as it really does help, but I've damaged my ribs and walking quickly on rough ground is painful atm, never mind trail running. Pretty annoyed with myself about the injury as there's a social run tomorrow morning I'd love to do, but I can't even contemplate it until my ribs hurt less.

Not liking what I'm reading Gary, and it's a big indicator of stress, if it wasn't blooming obvious. I've been there, for numerous reasons, and my life has followed a similar path to yours recently.

To get some sleep and get my mind focussed I had to resort to the doctor and get some assistance from pills. Helped me through the bad patches, but I don't use them now.

I wish I could ease your worries, but it's not.

I hope something turns up, I really do

Only suggestions, I am not a doctor, but I had trouble sleeping , or rather keeping waking up during the night several times and going to the toilet, and didn't get much sympathy from my usual doctor but then saw a younger dr who suggested I might have sleep apnoea and referred me to the sleep clinic of the local hospital who diagnosed severe obstructive sleep apnoea. This resulted in having my driving license revoked because I couldn't stand having the CPAP mask on my face to start with. I did soon after start treatment though and quickly felt much better but because of a c**k up between the hospital and DVLA didn't get my license back for 6 months. Anyway, that was 5 years ago and I sleep properly with the CPAP machine every night .The point is there might be a medical reason why people have trouble sleeping so it is worth getting a medical opinion (if you can get an appointment to see a doctor that is !)

Have found these help, melatonin is the bodies natural sleep substance ( just as seratonin is our bodies natural wake up and feel good stuff ). I tried sleeping pills for a very short time but found they made me feel zonked for a large part of the next day... not good at all. Melatonin can also help relieve depression ( but so can getting a decent nights sleep ).

The 6 hour timed release are better than the instant hit ones, and although you can get stronger than 3mg at least if you have 3mg you can take 2 - if you have the stronger ones you cannot split a tablet as it destroys the timed release dosing. I used these when I worked shifts and traveling for work, often to time zones a long way from home. I find 3mg is fine for me.

They come from USA so allow 7 days and about £3 postage to UK

No ride out today and instead working at home with my left ear now screaming and blocked more than ever. Pressure in my head and very disorientated. Any sound sounds like a scramble of confusion in my head. NHS have informed me they no longer do syringing so have suggested I go private. Booked at a local place for micro suction the soonest they can get me in.. next Wednesday. Cost of £55 per ear. Could be worse. Could be better too.

Same here (hear). GP checked my ear Wednesday, its not blocked with wax, so clogged in my inner ear. None of the suggested treatments are working but I have to wait a week before I can go back and see the GP again. Its been a week since it started and fed up with it. I don't think it's infected, just full of gunk from a mild cold. Still mustn't grumble.

Unfortunately seems socially acceptable to drink or drug drive these days. No police to enforce.

I'm not one for advocating it's legalisation, but seems it's semi legal anyway.

It isn't a minor gripe at all. I think I paid £50 for 2 ears at specsavers ,must have been on special offer !, but when I complained about being rejected by local hosptal because of long waiting list the gp got a letter sent to me giving a telephone number to ring with a choice of about 3 hospitals. When I rang they knew the waiting list at all these hospitals and I got in one on NHS within about 3 weeks. You can get in at specsavers in about a week if you pay. ps soften the wax up with olive oil drops for a few days before treatment other wise microsuction can't clear all hard wax. good luck - over and out.

Very, very common round here and quite worrying. I don't know if legalisation would help or hinder with reducing smokers on the road. Probably more likely hinder although I can't wonder how many teenagers/people smoke it in their cars because there is nowhere socially acceptable to smoke nearer home.

Oncoming drivers at night who wait until they have dazzled you before dipping their headlights.
Particularly dangerous on narrow country roads where there are no white lines and grass verges and edge of the road can be indistinct when dazzled.
Also running into large expanse of wet mud on road with tractor at other end with 'floodlight like' lights glaring at you.

Kids- predominantly girls, why are they so horrible to each other?

So Libby has fairly short hair and often gets mistaken for a boy (that doesn't bother her) but a couple of months ago she decided that she was going to grow her hair long so she could then get it cut and donate it to the little princess trust.

But today on the bus home from school another girl went up to her and asked if she was a boy or girl, despite the fact she was wearing a skirt. The girl the said loudly to her friend "omg, it's a girl, doesn't it know girls should have long hair?"

Result is she now wants to get her hair cut short again so that this girl doesn't think she's growing her hair because of what she said

My daughter also cut off her hair for charity to try and help Grandma (My Mum) shortly before we lost her last year. Makes it even more of a painful situation for her. We get people who duck under a barrier through the door, past hazard tape markings and right up to our faces at a counter 10 feet away from where they're supposed to have stopped, once they've been invited in. Our shop is also our workshop space, so we have three of us in a limited amount of space already.

I did get asked to put a mask on in a bakery today when I was wearing my bike helmet. The counter also had a solid perspex barrier all the way across it and the guy standing well back from it also had a mask on. Not quite sure how he expected me to put a mask on inside my helmet or what good it would do, with three barriers already between us (my visor, perspex screen and his mask) and only one person (me) allowed in the shop at a time. The card machine contactless then failed so I had to touch the machine, twice as it failed again even with a PIN. He then asked me to pay cash. I didn't have any. I'd say the card machine and cash problems would be more of a potential source of spreading than not wearing a mask inside a helmet. There's some situations where common sense seems to be going out of the window.

As someone who had a rescue dog that could not be trusted with other dogs (a previous owner clearly mistreated her) I was always amazed at how inconsiderate other dog owners could be. Sure, your dog may be fine with most other dogs but when faced with mine snarling at it you just watch it get aggressive back. Not so smug now are you? We had to segregate Jackie for everyone's sake, keeping to roadside footpaths, which is such a shame with a big park on my doorstep, but it was not worth the hassle, especially from the "oh he's very friendly" brigade who would not/could not recall their own dog. I know my own dog - you don't. If another owner asks you to keep your dog away don't dismiss them. [/rant]

Completely Agree, Trev. It's sad you can't utilise what you have on your doorstep due to no fault of your own.

Yep, had my visor down.... he wanted me to wear a mask like on the signs his manager had put up.

Most places round by us have signs saying 'face coverings must be worn' so you would probably be ok with scarf, helmet or mask....

The guy before me was wearing a saggy blue medical mask virtually hanging around his chin. Looked like the one in the picture on the signs though so got no complaints. The kid working there was just a bit simple.

Most peoples masks are kept for so long without replacing or washing they are health hazards - and don't mention the ones that get dumped in supermarket trolleys or carparks.

Boys may be more physical, but girls are more psychological in their bullying, my wife admitted this, she once said she never wanted to work for a female boss ever again, blokes much more fair and reasonable.

Bit of a generalisation ! I have worked for male bosses who were unfair and unreasonable twa*s !

Not being funny ,they wouldn't do that would they, isn't there something in the contract that prevents them from doing that ? I used to get a lot on the landline but get some protection from BT ,still get some though. Spam emails are another thing - fake parking fine, fake paypal notice ,fake HMRC email etc . I notify Action Fraud.

Minor gripe; I just read an article on yet another freeview retune for nov 4th, it only seems like a couple of weeks since I last did this. Apparently there was one a couple of days ago too.
So the reason for the retune is to renumber some channels. Offcom has regulated that all public service channels should be in the first 24 channels. This includes BBC4 which in the Scottish regions is channel 55. So after the retune it becomes channel 24. So still out of step with everyone else.
I would think that offcom had more serious matters to worry about.

I'd be happy if the BBC could manage to put the local news in HD so I don't have to change channels halfway through the news or suffer the steel band/swimmers/wheelchair basketball team sounds until the remote is located.

How can ITV manage this but the BBC can't?

I may need to get out more [emoji3]

I stopped watching the news because of the biased reporting of B****t, I continued not watching the news as I was fed up of hearing about Covid, and now I still don't watch the news as I'm fed up with hearing about the US election...

When did this country become so obsessed with American politics ?!
Nigel Farage seen standing on a platform among Trump supporters - he'll be disappointed when they tell him he can't vote because he isn't American !

eBay eejits, again. Selling my Givi Top Box which still retails at £200 brand new, which is 18 months old and in good condition for £160 (offers can be sent). The amount of eejits who think you'll sell it for half the cost of a new one is ridiculous. To the point i added in the description that no lowball offers would be entertained.
If you want cheap luggage, go look and bid on cheap luggage! If you want quality luggage understand there's a price attached to it.

Because we are one of the newest states to join the Union, or so the BBC would have us think. Don't worry about what's happening in Europe, nothing to worry about there

Less than 12 hours after Boris's announcement, Morrisons shelves have been stripped of toilet rolls and dried pasta.

The hoarders supplies from 8 months ago must be getting low.

I'd go back into the garage if I were you Adam!

Made my usual Sunday afternoon trip to Morrisons to stock up on fresh stuff for lunches this week and could not believe how many people were in there compared to usual. The queues at the checkout were stupid, even the self-scan baskets one where I went. We have enough bog roll and pasta for a couple of weeks so kept well clear of those aisles, thankfully.

Think you are probably being a bit optimistic at £160, but having sold a few almost new accessories off bikes a year or so ago I don't understand why some people think parts a few months old should be half the new price.

Daughter #2's blindness hasn't improved. Add to that she is struggling to walk because of numbness in her right leg. She's struggling to pick things up because of numbness with her right arm. And she is now having problems with bladder control. Her friend, who called round last Friday, has tested positive for Covid. Daughter is now self-isolating, not that she was going out anyway.

Daughter #1 is due to give birth in 2 weeks time but has been diagnosed with fibroids, and is now scheduled for a C-section.

Daughter #3 is a primary school teacher, and is due to give birth just after Christmas. One of her pupils has tested positive for Covid, and the daughter is self-isolating + awaiting her own C-19 test results.

Covid travel restrictions, lockdowns and quarantines I need like a hole in the head. Stressed, aye just a tadge.

APC overnight! I made a point of staying in, I open the garage door and patio door to show I'm in. I get an email telling me I'm not in and I have a card pushed through the door. There's no card.

It's frozen fruit so delivery tomorrow isn't going to work. Allegedly, the driver is returning...

About a year ago I was home with a rotten cold, as i stumbled past the front door heading for the coffee, a card started to be pushed thru so i whipped the door open and told the idiot to try the bell, he just looked dumbstruck, had no intention of even attempting a delivery as it took him 10 mins to find it in the van as i stood in front of it refusing to move till I got it, he had a handful of pre-written 'You were out' cards in his hand.

I called DPD about it and was told they would look into it, oh how I laughed.

They know they do it and simply don't give a stuff, they have already been paid for the delivery so why cause a fuss, half the 'Depot management' used to be drivers so know exactly what goes on, only way round it is something like Royal Mail Special Delivery by 10AM as you can claim compensation if its not there

eBay buyer ******s

Had a guy message me about an item, moaning it didn't work. I offered him a refund on the purchase price, but not the postage, if he returned it.
He said it wasn't fair I wasn't going to refund my postage costs, and he was going to keep the item for spares anyway!

Why bother messaging me if you didn't want to return it then. Feck off

I've had this a couple of times, in both cases the item was working fine immediately before posting. I suspect that some striping gits know that most of us would rather keep our 100% positive feedback score and use that to get the purchase price refunded.

I haven't sold anything on ebay yet . I have sold motorcycle parts through forums, where buyers have come to collect so there wasn't a problem, or by posting where photos of the item showed the condition before I sent them. I describe items accurately and, touch wood, I haven't had a problem so far. I would never claim a refund by making false claims but isn't there some procedure in ebay where a seller can dispute a bad rating when it isn't justified.
