Mmm, just made a late lunch with the leftover savoy cabbage I had from last night and some leftover pesto I made a few days ago. Shredded the cabbage and put in the pan with the pasta 2 minutes before it was cooked, then drained and stirred through the pesto and shaved a little parmesan on. Most healthy and yummy!

Doesn't sound cold to me. The looks you get when it's your own family are even worse.

I went to pick up my aunt from the airport a few weeks back. She was due to go to New York with my mum and their other sister but had a seizure while waiting. The same happened there two years ago and my mum and other aunt stayed with her and flew out the next day. This time, when mum phoned me I told her in no uncertain terms to get on the bl00dy plane and enjoy her holiday. My aunt lost her husband many years back and her 16yr old daughter 5 years ago. She's been alcohol dependant since my uncle killed himself and so has very frayed nerves and has been a "victim" for so long now that it's all she knows. Unfortunatelym she is also very manipulative. When she wants to be alone, she very good at letting you know. When she wants the attention again, you get the tears and the pitiful voice and guilt trips.

When I got to the airport, I checked my mum and other aunt had got on the plane before asking about Judith. They looked at me like I was a real biatch. They brought her out and she started off. I was reassuring, but not exactly comforting because I know full well what she is like. When one of them asked if I could be a little more sensitive, I gave her a bit of the back story and she said,

"Ah, it makes sense now. She didn't want your mother and aunt to go and leave her even though she knew you were coming. She was crying and screaming, telling them how selfish they were being to leave her and it was really upsetting for them. Then, not more than 2 seconds after the door closed behind them, the tears were gone and she calmly asked for a cup of tea. It was like Jekyll and Hyde".

I should point out that I love my auntie Judith to bits, she is a lovely, lovely woman and has a heart of gold. She is just unfortunately now a product of years of alcohol dependance. She's not only been through the mill of lost loved ones, she was also brutally attacked by a would be burgler two years ago, leaving her with a face full of stitches, missing teeth, a massive chunk of missing hair and permanent facial scarring. It's amazing to me that is doing as well as she is, but I do draw the line at pandering to her when she's in "victim mode". I get judged for it, but hey ho...those people don't know what the deal is.
