Okay fanks, knee is sore as heck but hospital said it's nothing to worry about (i.e. old ligament surgery hasn't decided to give up on me)
Should be back on the bike next week if it keeps getting better at the rate it has been.
Luckily I work where my best mate & his Mum work and she has ferried me in since last Tues.
Still hobbling but not in as much pain.
Boys chicken pox have scabbed over (sorry for those eating but you should know by now) and father-in-laws been told he needs a skin graft on his head once they have scrapped away the cancerous growth (long story).
Just about to treat myself to a beer so in all, not bad.
evenin bibs, did I read somewhere you'd picked up another sv or am I losing my mind?

Sorry, forgot to thank you Phil.
I'm going to badger the boss at work to get an answer re my possible re-grade (been effectively acting up for over almost 2 years but they somehow managed to put off my review until the country basically starts going into job cut melt-down mode) as they are looking to loose some higher grade posts (oddly because I've been doing the graft for less money for ages) - rant over.

Wednesday mornings are soooooo hard to wake up from, especially when you didn't sleep well.

Someone at work mentioned that eating pineapples helps speed up injuries like mine (knee still inflamed). Does anyone know if this holds any water? (not my knee-the pineapple thing)
Plus, I would need to purchase a tent...

I too struggle to get up on wednesday. Heck, I struggle to get up every day.
Never heard of that before, but pineapple is lush so you should just eat it anyway. I often bring in a tin of pineapple chunks to devour in the morning.
Just found this
Health Benefits:
Pineapple is a digestive aid and a Natural Anti-Inflammatory fruit. A group of sulfur-containing proteolytic enzymes in pineapple aid digestion. Fresh pineapples are rich in bromelain. Bromelain has demonstrated significant anti-inflammatory effects, reducing swelling in inflammatory conditions such as acute sinusitis, sore throat, arthritis and gout, and speeding recovery from injuries and surgery. Pineapple should be eaten alone between meals.
Pineapple enzymes have been used with success to treat rheumatoid arthritis and to speed tissue repair as a result of injuries, diabetic ulcers and general surgery. Pineapple reduces blood clotting and helps remove plaque from arterial walls. Studies suggest that pineapple enzymes may improve circulation in those with narrowed arteries, such as angina sufferers.
Pinapples are used to help cure bronquitis and throat infections. It is efficient in the treatment of arterioscleroses and anaemia. Pineapple is an excellent cerebral toner; it combats loss of memory, sadness and melancholy.

Betty Crocker - PAH!!!
Nothing beats home-made vanilla cupcakes - and sooooo easy.
chuck 50g butter and 50g caster sugar in a mixer and beat till the butter goes pale.
Then chuck in 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1 egg and mix till mixed in.
Now add 50g of self-raising flour, then simply put paper cases into a tin, add a dollop of the mix to each one - about a tablespoon will do, should get about a dozen from that amount.
Then pop in a pre-heated oven @ 160c for 20 mins
NOMTASTIC.
If you want bigger/more cakes, just add another 50g butter, 50g caster sugar, 1 egg, 1tsp vanilla essence, 50g self-raising flour.
I did a batch of a dozen the othe night using a triple quantity and it made some really nice, big ones.
Icing them is optional
For those on a diet, they also come out ok if you use marg in place of butter and Splenda instead of the sugar.

02-02-11, 02:16 PM

Thanks for that - now I want to bake :p
Want my bread recipe then?
Take 300ml warm water, ad 50g sugar (caster dissolves best) and add a 7g sachet of yeast.
Leave it somewhere warm till the yeast forms a dome on top of the water.
Add a teaspoon of salt, then 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil, finally 500g strong white flour.
Mix it together with a table knife, then when mostly combined, turn out onto a lightly floured surface and start kneading, knead until it feels smooth and not gritty (means the flour is well mixed in).
Take the bowl you mixed the dough in, clean it and put a light coating of veg oil in it, then the dough, cover it in clingfilm and leave it somewhere warm until its about twice the size it was.
Take it out of the bowl and punch the carp out of it to knock it back then knead for a few mins.
Nows the decision time - you can divide this quantity into 12 and make a dozen rolls, or put it in a loaf tin, or form it into any shape you like.
So do what you will with it, and then put the oven on to 200c - when the over is ready the dough should have risen again to what it needs to be, then pop it in the over for about 20 mins.
Take it out, let it cool then nom it all while still a bit warm (well maybe not it all, but the ends crust is VERY nice with butter and honey - or marmite :)
