not being daft.... I know what he did was wrong... But I would be campaigning regardings costs if I was still at Uni.
Doesn't matter what area you are from or how much you can afford they are talking about making you pay £9000 a year in fees!
Now when I went which was only 6 years ago started, 3 years ago graduated... I paid £1050 a year! Which was an affordable cost for a higher education. £9000 is just stupid. I actually think what Drew's brother's step kids are paying of £3000 is stupid. The thing is as well they are adding it to the student loan cost. So the university are going to get the money straight away from teh government and the student will owe it to the government... which if like my student loan gets wrote off when I get to 50 anyway!

If you look at private training courses, £9k is cheap. A decent plumbing course is £7k+ MCSE course is about £4k a module and theres lots depending on your goal and most of these courses last wekkes not years. So overall VFM, its a bargain. Makes the uni fees £9k per year but then shorten the course period by a year. Most of the 1st year is spent dossing, drinking and shagging anyway :)

Im a current Uni student, and to be frank, it is too expensive. The cost of tuition may be "cheap" in comparison to say a plumbing course, but then add on living expenses like rent food ect. For a student with little or no income its ridiculous. Currently (with £3225 tuition fees) the loans you can get dont cover the costs. The maintenance loan i get doesnt cover the cost of my rent......then what money do i have to live on?
It just mounts to debt debt and more debt. Wit the new tuition fees they estimated it would take roughly 30 years to pay it off.

Then dont go to Uni and get a job. (Playing devils advocate)
Plenty of people go to uni and get through it. Not saying you are, but most of them see it as a doss and are lazy. Most pople i speak to that go to Uni dont even know what they want to do when they leave, so in real terms dont go.
Life is hard ffs. So your going to have a 30 year debt, that in reality you will porbably never pay off as you wont be able to find a job that pays high enough to break the threshold.
As for 'living on' You ride a bike a luxury that you dont need. Students get it easy with the likes of discounts on everything from food to travel. Its not all bad.

I went to uni and got a job and lived at home for free, my parents paid my fees, I just had to get myself there, and buy my books!
I was rolling in it (think I was the only student that was) I'm more poor now than when I was at uni!

haha, this is also true. I am not doubting the fact that it is hard/unfair ect. But i do not agree that prices should be raised to decrease Gov. spending. (and yes i know that is only a minute part of gov. plan ect, but i really cba to talk about all the other factors involved :p)
Everyone has different opinions about Uni life. But yes, alot of people at uni have no idea what they want to do, or are here for a laugh (which IMHO is a waste of time and money) But there are some who know what they want to do and genuinely want to further their own learning.
But what i think alot of people (and students ;) ) fail to realise is that it is a 9K limit, 9K is not what is going to be charged at every university. (as far as i am aware).
And i did not intend to use myself as an example (although re reading it does imply i was). Things will obviously have to be sacrificed in order to come to uni, that is obvious and it should not be something people do just for fun.
Personally i think that 9K is abit of a steep increase in price, i think the original idea of 6K limit was a much better solution (and may have resulted in less rioting). but o well whats done is done.
On a lighter note....how is everyone today? :smt039

As for students that are rioting. Just throw bars of soap and the skiving gits...that'll disperse them :)

to put my treppence in to this arugement.
I'm a graduate this year and very good friends with a few lecturers and was told on no uncertain terms that 10% of the staff in the school has been cut (thats out of 105 lecturers and technicians).
Tht is on top an additional 10-20% extra students for the next 2 years and the funding being cut to the courses. My course costs between £15k and £21k per student per year
To bare in mind, my department was the built environment and the shortage of staff in practice come 2015 is about 30%.
But the non courses in my view (politics, some of the sports sciences and pretty much all the phycology courses) have received almost no cuts.
Work that one out!!

Im with viney it is cheap. its one of the problems with todays britain, it no longer has industries as everyone goes to uni and ends up in an office, which again leads to the other problem of the country having nothing to export which again is bad in todays climate, i know everyone is entitled to higher education but in the real world if you cant afford something you cant have it. compare the 70's to the modern day if anything students have got it easy
anybody got any work they need doing?
my boss has stolen a load of mine while I have been out the office, and pulled me off a few projects... so I'm a bit bored and still have an hour and 15 to kill as back onto half 5 finishes
