i know i should take this to the 'protest' thread but i canna be arzed....

i walked staright into an HNC fast track (1/2 term instead of full) done that then progressed to HND done that then went to uni to do a BSc in networking and walked straight into year 3. i had already done a CCNA and a few MCSE's, linux yada yada before i got there and guess what, the uni were doing the same work as i had already done apart from SQL and Media. upshot i got board and decided to change course so dropped a year and started Beng in embedded computer systems which i was enjoying. the wife fell ill so had to give up.

now because i had already had funding for 3rd year i had to pay the tuition fees myself for the ECS.

before i started at Collage i had no qualifications what so ever but they still let me in WTF.

i think they should have entrance exams and weed out the dumb muthers. think thats cruel hell yes but its whats needed, the amount of useless idiots that were in my classes was unreal one of them actually blagged his way into 3rd year but ended up passing, this said person was as dumb as they come and had to have everything explained in detail and even then he couldn't understand, but like i said he passed.

so tough entrance exam then tough learning but everything is funded and when you pass you pay 2% on top of your wages for life to fund other students. if you fail the you pay back what you owe at 2% directly off your wages till paid off.

I know there is another thread but too much police bashing going on in it for my liking...my views:

The entire thing about education is a shambles. I started studying at university in 2005. Due to the wage my dad makes, which was only just on the threshold, I received the minimum student loan available. Luckily I was fairly sensible and h...ad saved a bit from working during the holidays and got a job whilst I was there. However, one of the girls in the halls with me got something ridiculous like almost triple what I got in the way of a loan because her mum and dad were split up and she stayed with her mum and only had to declare her mums wages as her mum wasn't married to her new man. Her new man was a solicitor or similar and was on a much higher wage than my dad. She was getting a ridiculous amount of loan money PLUS getting sent "presents" of laptops and printers and things.

And I don't for one minute buy this argument of "only the rich" will be able to afford degrees. NONSENSE! Look at America, they manage over there. Things such as scholarships will be introduced allowing those who can't afford it to earn the right to a free education, or at least funding towards their education, or god forbid, young people might need to get a part time job whilst at school and EARN some bloody money to help pay their way! Education is a right, further education is not. If education should be free, then why can't I, at only 23 years old, go to university tomorrow for nothing? Either it's free for everyone or not at all. Further to that, they don't even have to pay up front. They will only be paying it once they earn £21k a year like the current Student Loan system.

If the numbers of doctors, nurses, paramedics, firefighters and police have to be cut then I am sorry, that is a bigger sacrifice to society than for students to have to pay increased fees.

I believe that it is correct that the government fund people to get an education. But, I also feel it is right that you should pay back your student loan, as you do now, AND your tuition fees. I also feel the government would be correct in asking for interest on the tuition fees and loan due to effects of inflation! My main gripe is the ability now to triple fees, its just unreal.

I was in the same boat as me old man earned a fair wage (but poor for his field) I got a bare f***ing minimum and no grants.
I don't approve of the £9k fees but the system needs addressed in a different way

university fees are simple..... if you can't afford it then tuff, either get a sponsor, save up and pay for the course or deal with the debt its the way life works its not societies problem. I can't have a nice big house and Ferrari so its simple...... i don't have them, i want those things so i work for them. life costs money get over it

i agree MBK. our precious last government made it look like the good times would never stop and everyone was equil. BS what they done was get us into trillions of debt and start wars with other countrys in the name of peice keeping. now where are we.. well up to our eyeballs in it and nobody is liking the fact that we have to pay our way and get this country on its feet again.

poor students, dont make me feckin laugh, just go out in the centre of Edinburgh and then tell me they are poor when the pubs are full of them drinking away tax payers money as they are too fekin dumb to get a job but not to dumb to go to uni.

it all to do with unemployment figures as people in higher education are not included in the unemployed statistics just like the junkies on disability benefits (which makes me angry).
