Only need the flash gun if you are planning on taking quick succession piccies with the flash. But its a good kit......

My only input would be that like us you will end up wanting the 70-300mm lense, thus making the 55-200 largely redundant. So might be worth considering buying this

Well, not yet.
Just come out of a relationship and wanted to be single for a while. Haven't been for more than 2 months since I was 14! The only thing is though that I obviously don't want to see a potentially good opportunity pass me by that I will perhaps regret later.

One other note, I'm fine with confidence now-a-days when I'm drunk but going to the next stages I'm a little wimp :D all the what if's start appearing in my mind...

I've had a look, looks decent enough but it's the D5000 I am after...thanks though. Will prob just save up and get a 70-300 at a later date, I'm sure there is plenty of camera and lens there to keep me going for a little while.
